Want To Celebrate Halloween With Your Remote Staff? Here Are Six Virtual Activities You Can Try

And just like that, it’s almost Halloween! It’s creepy how fast time flies (and horrifying that there’s still no end in sight for this pandemic). However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try and find joy where we can, such as through a virtual Halloween celebration.

Also, now that the year is almost over, it would be great for the whole team to take a well-deserved break. Halloween might not be as huge Down Under as it is in the US, but celebrating holidays is a great way to reconnect with your team. Organising activities and special celebrations can boost morale, and bring back a bit of that social element which has been missing for almost two years now.

So, how can you ensure an engaging and memorable virtual Halloween experience for your team this year? Here are some fun virtual activities you can do to bring this spooky season to life!

Virtual Halloween Party

What’s Halloween without a party? Hence, a spooky soiree ought to be on the itinerary as you get closer to the 31st of October. If you’re unsure where to start, you can always check out these virtual Halloween party ideas

Whatever activities you come up with, do get a feel for what your remote workers would enjoy. After all, the last thing you want at your virtual party is deathly silence or worse, event ghosting.

Murder Mystery Game

You can never go wrong with mystery games, especially on Halloween. Everyone loves the thrill and a theme can make it even more dramatic. For example, you can have a Sherlock Holmes theme where someone plays Sherlock while others play witnesses and accomplices.

Throw in some details like a virtual scavenger hunt where the acting detective will have to check dummy Facebook accounts or email threads for clues. When the detective is ready to reveal the answers, play some background music for additional suspense!

Costume Competition

Halloween won’t be the same without people dressing up as pirates, witches, ghosts, or I dunno, tissue paper. Hence, even if you’re having a virtual party, you can still require your remote teams to show up in their best costumes.

To add more excitement, you can offer up a prize for the most impressive costume. That way, everyone will be even more motivated to show up and participate.

Spooky Party Playlist

Music adds life to a party and Halloween is no exception. If you want your virtual celebration to be more realistic, why not create a Spotify playlist of the most eerie or hauntingly beautiful songs?

Don’t know where to start? You can always search for existing playlists or better yet, get suggestions from your team members.

Virtual Pumpkin Carving Contest

Pumpkin carving is another iconic Halloween tradition. While it can be fun to have virtual games, nothing beats an actual hands-on activity, such as carving out the best (and scariest) Jack-O-Lantern,.

It might help to share pumpkin carving videos on Youtube a few days before the event, though. Then, once it’s time for the competition, have your participating team members set up their carving station in full view of their webcams. This way, the rest of you can cheer for each contestant from the other side of the screen.

Creative Virtual Backgrounds

Eerie forest, abandoned warehouse, zombie apocalypse – these are just some of the creative (and creepy) virtual backgrounds you and your team can use during your virtual Halloween celebration. It would be a fun and spooky way to engage and it would definitely spark your team members’ creativity as they seek or create the most interesting virtual background.

Alternatively, you can also have a remote graphic designer on the team create a customised background design that anyone attending the event can use.

No matter which activities you go with, always make sure to keep your remote employees engaged. Ask for suggestions and contributions so that each employee will feel like they’re part of the team. Don’t forget to take part and enjoy yourself too!

Remote Staff has been providing Australian SMEs and entrepreneurs like you with skilled remote workers from the Philippines since 2007.
